1. Acceptance of Terms
By installing or using Cogumi AI Shield ("the Extension"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, don't use the Extension.
Simple version: This is proprietary software provided free for individual users. Use it responsibly.
2. License Grant
Cogumi AI Shield is proprietary software owned by Cogumi Security.
What you CAN do:
- ✅ Install and use the Extension for personal or commercial purposes (free for individuals)
- ✅ Use it to protect your data in AI workflows
- ✅ Recommend it to others
What you CANNOT do:
- ✗ Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension
- ✗ Create derivative works or competing products based on the Extension
- ✗ Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the Extension
- ✗ Remove or modify copyright notices
3. No Warranty
Cogumi AI Shield is provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind.
We do our best to detect sensitive data (API keys, PII, secrets), but:
- ✗ We don't guarantee 100% detection (new token formats may evade regex patterns)
- ✗ We're not responsible if a secret leaks despite our warnings
- ✗ We're not liable for false positives (legitimate data blocked incorrectly)
Your responsibility: Review security decisions. Don't blindly trust the Extension. Use test credentials when debugging with AI agents.
4. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are NOT liable for any damages arising from use of the Extension (data loss, breaches, downtime, etc.)
- We are NOT responsible for third-party AI agents (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) and their data retention policies
- We are NOT liable if a detected secret is exfiltrated (the Extension is a defense tool, not a guarantee)
Why? Because we:
- Don't control the AI agents you interact with
- Can't guarantee detection of all secret formats
- Provide the tool for free to individual users, without commercial support (for the free tier)
If you need liability coverage, contact us about the Enterprise tier (includes SLA, insurance, and support).
5. User Responsibilities
By using Cogumi AI Shield, you agree to:
- Not use it for illegal purposes (obviously)
- Not reverse-engineer it to create competing products or derivative works
- Not claim it's an official product of OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any AI company (we're independent)
- Review security prompts (don't blindly click "Allow All" — that defeats the purpose)
6. Privacy (Summary)
We don't collect your data. Period.
- ✅ All processing is local (in your browser)
- ✅ Minimal analytics (Google Analytics for page views only, blockable)
- ✅ Audit logs stored locally (you control export/deletion)

7. Acceptable Use
You MAY use Cogumi AI Shield for:
- ✅ Preventing AI data leaks (agentic security guardrails)
- ✅ Enterprise security (free tier or paid Teams tier)
- ✅ Educational purposes (teach security awareness)
- ✅ Security research (analyze AI agent behavior)
You MAY NOT use Cogumi AI Shield to:
- ✗ Circumvent AI agent terms of service (e.g., using it to violate ChatGPT's usage policy)
- ✗ Claim it eliminates all security risks (it's a tool, not a silver bullet)
- ✗ Harass or deceive users (e.g., fake security warnings)
8. Third-Party AI Agents
Cogumi AI Shield interacts with AI agents like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc. We are not affiliated with these companies.
- ✅ We detect interactions with these agents to warn you about potential data leaks
- ✗ We don't control their data retention policies, terms of service, or privacy practices
Your responsibility: Read the terms/privacy policies of the AI agents you use. Cogumi helps you avoid leaking data, but once you click "Allow," it's out of our hands.
9. Updates and Changes
We may update the Extension at any time (bug fixes, new features, security patches). By continuing to use it, you accept updates.
Major changes (breaking changes to the API or behavior) will be announced:
- In the extension's Options Console (banner notification)
- On our GitHub releases page
- On our website (cogumi.ai/blog)
10. Termination
You can stop using Cogumi any time by uninstalling the Extension.
We can revoke access if you violate these terms (e.g., reverse-engineering, creating competing products).
11. Future Paid Tiers
Current: Cogumi AI Shield is free for individual users.
Future: We may offer a Teams tier with:
- Centralized policy management (company-wide rules)
- Cloud audit log aggregation (optional, opt-in)
- SSO/SAML integration
- Priority support
Guarantees:
- ✅ The free tier will always exist for individual users
- ✅ Paid features won't compromise privacy (cloud features will be opt-in, encrypted)
- ✅ No forced upgrades (you can use the free tier indefinitely)
Pricing/terms for Teams tier will be announced separately.
12. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of [Your Jurisdiction] (to be determined based on company location).
Dispute resolution:
